The Capitals have undergone significant changes this offseason - namely the hiring of new general manager Brian MacLellan and head coach Barry Trotz - but Mikhail Grabovski's agent maintains there is interest between the team and his client in regards to extending his time in Washington.
“I believe [management has] interest in Grabo,” Gary Greenstin told the Washington Post. “We have interest to stay in Washington ... Grabo likes the city [of Washington]. Very comfortable. Great organization. I believe he played very good for them. Grabo created moments in every shift for his teammates. He make players better. He’s a great center.”
The 30-year-old is coming off a one-year, $3-million deal with the team, and could be in line for a raise after scoring 13 goals and adding 22 assists in 58 games and leading all Capitals' forwards with a 51 percent Corsi-for rating.
Free agency begins on July 1, but unrestricted free agents are free to interview with other teams from June 25-30. Greenstin would like something done prior to that time, but is not working under a great sense of urgency.
“If we’ve done the deal [by July 1], great,” he said. “If not, not to worry. It has to be right, for Grabo’s camp, for the team. We’re not worried at all. We have short time, but we still have time.”
