The Vancouver Canucks, a veteran club that tanked impressively late in the season to get as high as the No. 6 overall pick at the 2014 NHL entry draft, don't appear to be among the teams shopping their high draft pick.

Benning has had a long career in professional hockey, having worked as the director of amateur scouting for the Buffalo Sabres for the better part of a decade before becoming an assistant general manger with the Boston Bruins in 2007. During all that time, he's only been with a club that selected this high in the draft on two occasions: in 2003, when the Sabres selected Thomas Vanek with the fifth overall pick and in 2010, when the Bruins drafted Tyler Seguin second overall.
