Journeyman defenseman Tom Poti retires
Defenseman Tom Poti, a journeyman puck-mover who played for the Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, and Washington Capitals in his 824 game NHL career officially retired from professional hockey on Thursday, per an NHLPA release.
"I was very fortunate to play in the National Hockey League for 14 years. It was a dream come true and I had an awesome ride and met so many great people along the way," said Poti. "I'd like to thank my family and my wife and children for all their love and support."
Poti eclipsed the 40-point barrier on two occasions in his career and was a key role player on Bruce Boudreau's extraordinarily potent Washington Capitals teams in the late aughts. He also represented the United States of America at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games hosted in Salt Lake City, Utah; where he won a silver medal.
