1989 - Clint Malarchuk's throat cut by skate
In one of the scariest on-ice moments in NHL history, Buffalo Sabres goaltender Clint Malarchuk's throat was slit by the skate blade of St. Louis Blues forward Steve Tuttle.
Malarchuk lost a copious amount of blood, but was saved by Jim Pizzutelli, the team's fast-acting trainer.
Doctors sewed over 300 stitches into the wound, but Malarchuk ended up spending only one night in hospital. He made a full recovery, and was back playing for the Sabres just one week later.
