Goaltending equipment has come a long way in the 39 years since seven-time Vezina Trophy winning netminder Jacques Plante retired from the NHL, as evidenced by this photo of Canadiens goaltender Carey Price.

Price has a goalie mask painted in honor of Plante, who was the first NHL netminder to wear facial protection. Plante won six Stanley Cups with Montreal and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1978.
Price is expected to wear his modern equipment when the Canadiens face the rival Maple Leafs on Saturday.
