Jack Hughes being evaluated for lower-body injury
New Jersey Devils star forward Jack Hughes is being evaluated for a lower-body injury suffered in Thursday's win over the Nashville Predators, head coach Sheldon Keefe announced postgame, per team reporter Amanda Stein.
Although Keefe said he doesn't believe the injury is serious, Hughes' status for Saturday's road contest against the Ottawa Senators is unclear, Stein adds.
Hughes went to the dressing room during the first period, briefly returned for one shift, but then didn't play the rest of the game. He missed 18 contests earlier this season after undergoing finger surgery due to an injury sustained at a team dinner.
When healthy, Hughes has notched 36 points in 35 outings this season. He was named to the United States' Olympic roster earlier in January. The men's tournament is scheduled to begin on Feb. 11 in Milan-Cortina.
