Matt Moulson on being benched: 'most embarrassed I’ve been in my career"
It's been less than two weeks since the Buffalo Sabres acquired Matt Moulson from the New York Islanders in exchange for Thomas Vanek, and already there are interesting messages being sent between the 30-year old forward and his new team.
During Friday's 6-2 drubbing at the hands of the Anaheim Ducks, head coach Ron Rolston decided to bench Moulson for the final 26 minutes of the game. When asked about the benching, Moulson said “It’s the most embarrassed I've been in my career."
And Moulson wasn't along in being stapled to the bench, as linemates Cody Hodgson and Tyler Ennis also did not play in the third period. When asked by the Buffalo News why this was the case, Moulon replied "No, you have to ask (Rolston)."
"We’ve got to work, and we didn’t feel that the work was there" was Rolston's response, possibly referring to the fact that the line generated a lone shot on net prior to the benching.
Moulson has scored 30 goals three times during his career, and has registered eight in 17 games this season, including two on 13 shots in six games with the Sabres. He's also set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
