Hurricanes' Jarvis: Olympic omission 'a shit sandwich'
Carolina Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis was blunt when describing how it felt to be left off Canada's Olympic roster.
"Sometimes you gotta eat a shit sandwich and chew on it for a little bit," Jarvis told team reporter Walt Ruff on Thursday, referencing a quote from former Hurricane Justin Williams. "It doesn't taste good, but you move on."
Jarvis added: "Obviously, it's something I really worked for and wanted to achieve, but there's nothing you can do about it now. I gave myself a couple of days to take it in, feel emotions, and now it's just move past it and get ready for the season."
After a lopsided defeat during the 2019 Eastern Conference Final, Williams said: "Sometimes you've got to eat a poop sandwich. It doesn't taste good. You have to chew on it for a little bit."
The 23-year-old Jarvis has 19 goals and 29 points in 34 games this season but hasn't played since Dec. 19 due to a rib injury. Jarvis is one of three forwards, along with Sam Bennett and Travis Konecny, who were on Canada's 4 Nations Face-Off roster but dropped for the Olympics.
Hockey Canada instructed Jarvis to be on standby in case of injuries, he told Ruff.
Jarvis tallied 32 goals and 67 points in 73 contests last season. He notched one assist in three games at the 4 Nations Face-Off in a fourth-line role.
