Oilers trade Arvidsson to Bruins for pick

The Edmonton Oilers are trading forward Viktor Arvidsson to the Boston Bruins for a fifth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft, the teams announced.

Arvidsson was reportedly on the trade block shortly after Edmonton lost the Stanley Cup Final as the club sought cap space. The 32-year-old is under contract for next season at a $4-million cap hit.

The Oilers signed Arvidsson to a two-year deal last July. He scored 27 points in 67 games and added seven playoff points. He was a healthy scratch at times during the postseason.

Edmonton also shipped out Evander Kane this offseason to help create flexibility. The Oilers took care of a huge piece of business Monday by signing restricted free-agent defenseman Evan Bouchard to a four-year, $42-million contract.

The Bruins are in a transitional period after missing the playoffs this past season and selling off numerous assets at the trade deadline. Arvidsson should provide a boost to the offense in a middle-six role.
