Landeskog, Lucic offer different perspectives on fight that didn't happen
During the second period of Thursday's game between the Colorado Avalanche and the Boston Bruins, forwards Gabriel Landeskog and Milan Lucic engaged in an altercation that resulted in only two gloves dropped and a 10-minute misconduct for the Bruin.
After the game, both sides had different takes on the situation.
Gabriel Landeskog: "(Lucic) grabbed P.A. (Parenteau) from behind, and I had to do something, so I tried to get him off P.A. He wasn't too happy with that. He wanted to fight, and I think I did a pretty wise choice not fighting him. That's one of the best fighters in the league. It's one thing to stand up for your teammates, but you can't be dumb doing it. For me, just coming off a concussion last year, you've got to be smart. I respect him as a player and he's one of the toughest in the league and I don't want to fight him. A guy who's had only one fight in the league, I think guys around the league would agree that's a bad tradeoff." (via the Denver Post)
Milan Lucic: Well, his version is best understood in video form, as head coach Claude Julien threw his two cents in as well.
The Avalanche won the game 2-0 to improve to 4-0-0 on the season, and coach Patrick Roy - who fully supported his captain's decision not to fight - seems to be finding ways for his young players to succeed early on, even in the face of tough opposition.
The Bruins will visit Colorado on March 21, 2013.
