Report: Rangers place Shesterkin on IR
The New York Rangers are putting goaltender Igor Shesterkin on injured reserve with an upper-body ailment, reports The Athletic's Arthur Staple.
New York recalled netminder Louis Domingue from the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack on Tuesday.
The Rangers signed Shesterkin to an eight-year, $92-million contract on Dec. 7 - a record pact for a goaltender.
He's having the worst season of his six-year career, while New York is heavily underachieving as a team. Shesterkin is 11-15-1 with a .906 save percentage over 27 games in 2024-25. The 2021-22 Vezina Trophy winner came into the campaign with a lifetime save percentage of .921.
The Rangers entered Tuesday's slate sitting in the basement of the Metropolitan Division at 16-19-1.
They've lost four straight and 15 of their last 19 games.
