Dallas Eakins: 'the fans should be angry' about Oilers' performance
The Dallas Eakins era in Edmonton isn't off to a fast start. In their first game of the 2013-14 season, Eakins' Oilers blew a two goal lead against the Winnipeg Jets. On Saturday they were thoroughly dominated by the Vancouver Canucks in a game that was never particularly close.
In a lengthy question and answer session with reporters on Sunday Eakins made it abundantly clear that he isn't happy with the way things are going. "Am I still mad about yesterday?" Eakins asked rhetorically, "Just look at my face. I haven't slept."
Eakins was also asked about criticism in the rabid Edmonton hockey market. His take was honest, and pretty interesting. "It's awesome," the Oilers head coach answered, "The other side of that is that when things are going great it's a big party in the city."
"That's the great thing about playing in a hockey market - they care. The city and the fans should be angry. As angry as we are, and our players are feeling it too. They're not walking around high-fiving each other and having a big party. They're upset too and they understand there's a process to it."
Eakins' team may be over-matched this season, but he clearly 'gets it.'
