Oilers, Flames split a pair of exhibition tilts
The Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames settled nothing in their first taste of exhibition action Saturday, splitting a pair of games.
Oilers defenseman Martin Marincin scored the winner with just under five minutes to go, guiding Edmonton to a 3-2 win in their showdown at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Ryan Jones and David Perron had the other Edmonton goals, while Emile Poirier and Mike Cammalleri responded for the Flames.
The teams played to a shootout in the other contest at Rexall Place, with Sven Baertchi and Roman Horak scoring in the sudden-death format to pace Calgary's 6-5 triumph. Flames netminder Reto Berra preserved the win with shootout saves on Taylor Hall and Linus Omark.
Hall, Ryan Smyth, Kyle Platzer, Mark Arcobello and Jesse Joensuu scored in regulation for Edmonton. Ben Street, Dennis Wideman, Lance Bouma, Josh Jooris and T.J. Galiardi answered for Calgary, which rallied from a 5-2 deficit with less than nine minutes remaining.
