Islanders officially name John Tavares captain

The New York Islanders have officially announced that franchise centerman John Tavares will wear the captains "C" for New York's other, other team this season.

The move to name Tavares captain was both a no-brainer and long expected. That it dragged on this long is as inexplicable as the fact that Jason Spezza hasn't been named team captain in Ottawa yet...

"John has developed into an elite player in this league and become the leader of our franchise both on and off the ice," said Islanders General Manager and shoulder pad aficionado Garth Snow in a press release from the club, "he consistently represents our organization with class and respect."
