Zegras, who's committed to Boston University for the 2019-20 campaign, made big strides in his second year with the U.S. NTDP's Under-18 squad.
His assist total this past season ranked second on the team behind teammate Jack Hughes, and only three players in the history of the program (Hughes, Jeremy Bracco, and Clayton Keller) produced more than the 100 combined helpers Zegras amassed across his two campaigns.
The talented two-way forward ranked sixth among North American skaters on NHL Central Scouting's final list after placing seventh on the midterm edition.
He models his style of play after Keller and, just like the Arizona Coyotes standout, Zegras has proven he has the versatility to play at center and on the wing.
What they're saying
"His ability to navigate the half-wall on either side and pick apart the opposition is as good as I've ever seen," U.S. NTDP head coach John Wroblewski told NHL.com's Jessi Pierce in January. "He finds the seams. He knows when to shoot. He's got deception to his game and there's fearlessness to him that he's not scared to make mistakes - and he doesn't make many of them. He's just been an unbelievable player to watch."
"(Zegras') pro-level mobility is the foundation of his game, supplementing an in-transition speed that shifts the pace of play," writes Elite Prospects' Curtis Joe. "He knows how to get under the skin of opponents and will actively seek out opportunities to lay the body and create separation, all the while staying attentive to the unfolding play. This unique aspect of his game makes him difficult and frustrating to play against."
