The Los Angeles Kings have traded goaltender Darcy Kuemper to the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday for forward Tobias Rieder and netminder Scott Wedgewood.

Arizona signed Kuemper to a two-year contract extension Thursday, as first reported by TSN's Bob McKenzie one day earlier. It's worth $3.7 million over the life of the deal, according to McKenzie.

Kuemper excelled in a backup role with the Kings, posting a .932 save percentage and a 10-1-3 record in 19 appearances.

The Coyotes are retaining 15 percent of Rieder's salary in the trade, McKenzie reported Wednesday. The German winger has eight goals and 19 points in 58 games this season.

He's a pending restricted free agent carrying a cap hit of $2.225 million.

Wedgewood has a cap hit of $650,000, and he's also a pending RFA.
