Avalanche's Semyon Varlamov: Penciled in to start Thursday

Varlamov was named the starting road goalie for Thursday's battle with Tampa Bay, Mike Chambers of The Denver Post reports.

Analysis:

The defenders working in front of Varlamov really let him down Tuesday, as Varly was peppered with 40 shots in a 3-0 loss to the Capitals. Given that the Bolts currently rank ninth in the league with 98 shots on goal in three games, expect Colorado's No. 1 goalie to frantically sprawl around the pipes yet again in the upcoming contest.
