Red Wings' Luke Glendening: Secures four-year extension

Glendening signed a four-year contract extension -- $1.8 million annual cap hit -- with the Red Wings on Thursday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.

Analysis:

Glendening's new deal runs through 2020-21 since he had already been signed through the upcoming season. We're guessing fans of the Winged Wheel won't be too thrilled with the relatively long deal and corresponding payout given that Glendening is a bottom-six winger, though it's worth noting that he is skilled on faceoffs and fearless when it comes to blocking shots. Glendening recorded a career-high 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) last season, making for a decent up-and-coming fantasy option.
