The San Jose Sharks added some speed to their forward group Friday, signing Mikkel Boedker to a four-year deal worth a reported $16 million, according to ESPN's Pierre LeBrun.

Boedker was among the most sought-after forwards after scoring 17 goals and 51 points split between the Arizona Coyotes and Colorado Avalanche last season.

"Mikkel's tremendous speed is his best attribute and he has the ability to back off defenders with his combination of quickness and soft hands," Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said. "His creativity and puck-handling abilities make him a threat in the transition game and he is a positive contributor in all three zones. We think he will thrive with our group and look forward to him joining our team."

While the 26-year-old has been largely regarded as a skilled forward, his biggest knock has been his inability to hit the 20-goal mark.

Boedker was offered more money and term elsewhere, but was drawn to the allure of possibly winning a Stanley Cup with the Sharks, reports TSN's Darren Dreger.
