The Carolina Hurricanes have signed center Nicolas Roy to a three-year, entry-level contract.

At the NHL level, the deal will pay $575,000 in 2016-17, and $650,000 in 2017-18 and 2018-19, or $67,500 per season in the minors, plus a signing bonus of $240,000.

"Nicolas is a big and skilled center, and is coming off of a great season with Chicoutimi where he led QMJHL in goals," said general manager Ron Francis. "We are excited to see him take the next steps in his development."

Roy, 19, was drafted 96th overall in 2015, and finished the 2015-16 season with 48 goals and 42 assists (90 points) in 63 games with the QMJHL's Chicoutimi Sagueneens.

Roy will join the Hurricanes’ AHL team, the Charlotte Checkers, for the remainder of the season on an amateur tryout contract.
