The Oakland Raiders have released linebacker Curtis Lofton, a source told Field Yates of ESPN.
Lofton signed a thee-year deal with the Raiders last offseason, but the deal was structured so that Oakland could move on from him after a year.
The 29-year-old appeared in all 16 games for the Raiders last season, starting nine, but with the team looking for upgrades all across their defense, Lofton became expendable.
The team is reportedly eyeing free agents Erin Henderson and Jerrell Freeman as his replacement at inside linebacker.
The Raiders will save $5.5 million toward the cap by parting ways with Lofton.
