Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams is widely expected to be released in the coming days, but he hasn't given up hope of remaining with the team.

"Yes, most definitely," Williams told ESPN's Josina Anderson on the topic of whether he's open to working things out with the Bills.

"It's bigger than just the numbers," Williams added, suggesting he will consider taking a pay cut.

Williams is set to count $19.9 million against the Bills' salary cap in 2016, a figure the cap-strapped team can hardly afford.

"I love my team. I love my teammates. Everything has been fine," Williams said. "It's just a matter of if there can be a better understanding of being able to do what we do ... at least meet halfway. That's all, meet halfway."

If Williams is cut, the Bills will get $12.9 million in salary-cap savings.

It's possible the two sides can work out a renegotiated deal, but it appears much more likely that Williams will be released.
