The Denver Broncos have begun negotiating "in earnest" with defensive end Malik Jackson, according to Mike Klis of 9News.

No deal appears imminent, though, as Klis adds that contract talks haven't progressed enough to prevent Jackson from testing the open market

General manager John Elway described the defense that Jackson was a part of last season as "historic" and said keeping the group together is his top priority. Linebackers Von Miller and Danny Trevathan also have contracts that are set to expire, though Elway has hinted at using the franchise tag on Miller.

Klis also reports the Broncos are interested in signing quarterback Brock Osweiler to a multi-year contract extension, and talks could take place during the NFL Scouting Combine.
