Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett left Thursday's game against the Indianapolis Colts after taking a big hit during the second quarter.

Brian Hoyer replaced Mallett, finishing out the first half as the Texans chipped away at the Colts lead. Following halftime, head coach Bill O'Brien confirmed Hoyer would finish the game.

Mallett appeared ready to return to the game almost immediately but was kept on the sidelines with Hoyer leading a well-orchestrated drive that ended in a field goal.

Mallett did not appear pleased.

How do you really feel Ryan Mallett?

After beginning the year as the team's starting quarterback, Hoyer was replaced by Mallett following a Week 1 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He relieved Mallett in a Week 4 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, leading the Texans on three successful touchdown drives in garbage time.
