New York Jets tight end Jace Amaro suffered a shoulder sprain Thursday in the team's preseason opener against the Detroit Lions, according to Manish Mehta of New York Daily News.

Amaro is considered week to week after undergoing an MRI. Head coach Todd Bowles hopes Amaro's absence will be limited to the preseason.

The 2014 second-round pick is expected to be the Jets' starting tight end. As a rookie, Amaro had 345 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
