Jets' Sheldon Richardson says Muhammad Wilkerson should land $100M contract

As Muhammad Wilkerson continues to seek a long-term contract extension from the New York Jets, fellow defensive end Sheldon Richardson is showing support for his linemate.

With some of the NFL's top defensive talents having received contracts in the $100-million range in recent seasons, Richardson believes that Wilkerson should be next in line.

"He's worth that penny," Richardson told Manish Mehta of The New York Daily News. "And you know what penny I'm talking about. ... We don’t just want J.J. Watt money. We want it all. We want (Ndamukong) Suh money. Hopefully everybody wants that type of bread in this league.

"If Gerald McCoy can get $100 million, I'm pretty sure my guy Mo Wilkerson can get $100 million."

Though the 25-year-old may deserve a sizable extension after playing at a high level through his first four seasons, the Jets have yet to proffer a new deal.

Given the presence of both Richardson and first-round draft selection Leonard Williams on the defensive front, it may prove difficult for the team and Wilkerson's representation to come to an agreement on his long-term value.

After sitting out earlier offseason workouts, Wilkerson ended his contract standoff by reporting to the Jets' mandatory minicamp Tuesday. Barring an extension, he's currently set to play out the fifth-year option on his original rookie deal before hitting free agency next offseason.
