Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer says the team won't attempt to trade struggling wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson.

Patterson was projected by many to have a breakout campaign in 2014, but faltered badly, recording 33 catches for 384 yards and one touchdown.

The Vikings selected Patterson with the 29th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, and don't intend to give up on the 24-year-old after one disappointing season.

"No, no chance whatsoever," Zimmer said when asked about trading Patterson, according to Chris Wesseling of NFL.com. "Cordarrelle is a young, emerging player who was with his third coordinator in three years. Quite frankly, we need to do a good job of figuring out how we can use him better and he needs to understand where he's supposed to be, the routes and everything."

An explosive kick returner, Patterson was used in a myriad of schemes but failed to make an impact early on, and descended down the team's depth chart as Greg Jennings, Jarius Wright and Charles Johnson all received more touches down the stretch.

Patterson is considered a dynamic talent when he has the ball in space, but must improve as a route-runner if the Vikings are to capitalize on his obvious skills.
