New York Jets center Nick Mangold was carted off the field midway through the second quarter of Sunday's game against the New England Patriots after suffering a left ankle injury.

According to CBS Sports, Mangold was taken for X-rays on his ankle. He was initially listed as questionable to return, but has since been downgraded to out.

Both teams showed their support for the nine-year veteran as he was carted off. Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork, who caused the injury by falling on Mangold's ankle, shared some words with his longtime rival and gave him a pat on the helmet.

Dalton Freeman entered the game in relief of Mangold.
