Report: Bears plan to replace Mel Tucker after season
Depending on how the rest of the season plays out, there's a good chance Mel Tucker could be out as defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that, barring a significant improvement, the Bears plan to part ways with Tucker at the end of the year.
Tucker joined the Bears in January 2013 after spending the previous five seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his first season in Chicago, the Bears allowed a league-high 2,583 rushing yards and finished 30th in total points allowed with 478.
This season, the Bears rank dead last in total yards (4,911) and points allowed (378) and became the first team since 1923 to give up 50+ points in back-to-back games.
While the Bears' struggles could spell the end of Tucker in Chicago, head coach Marc Trestman appears to be safe. CSN Chicago's John Mullin reported Thursday on Pro Football Talk Live that firing Trestman would equate to a monumental admission of mistake by general manager Phil Emery and that is something he is not yet ready to do.
