Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith had surgery to repair a Lisfranc injury in his left foot, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.

"It's just bad," Smith said. "I'll bounce back but it's unfortunate. I was headed toward a pretty decent season."

The term "Lisfranc" isn't as scary in NFL circles as it once was, but it's still a somewhat concerning injury for the cornerback as far as his return timetable and aftereffects are concerned.

Lisfranc injuries have a tendency to linger. San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates and Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden are two of the more notable players to have suffered through the injury in recent years.
