The Dallas Cowboys expect to hear from the NFL as early as Friday regarding the possible reinstatement and punishment of defensive tackle Josh Brent, NFL Media's Mike Silver reports.

According to Silver, the Cowboys are bracing for a four-game suspension for Brent, whom they plan to re-sign as soon as he is eligible to resume his career. The team believes the suspension will come as a direct result of a positive marijuana test from May 2013, Silver adds.

Brent was found guilty of intoxication manslaughter in the death of his former teammate Jerry Brown. He met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell earlier this month after being released from a drug and alcohol treatment center, where he spent the final 45 days of his 180-day jail sentence.
