The Ravens made upgrading their defensive line a priority this offseason and did just that by drafting Florida State's Timmy Jernigan.
Adding Jernigan should have a trickle-down effect on the rest of the defense, especially when it comes to the linebackers. Jernigan does a great job of using his 300-pound frame to absorb double teams and keep interior linemen away from his backers. This should free up Ravens linebackers C.J. Mosley and Arthur Brown to make more stops this season in the running game.
Scouts are high on Jernigan's ability to use his hands to his advantage. He stays at a low-pad level and keeps himself well balanced, so he can use his hands in order to dispatch blockers and make his way into the backfield. Jernigan showed great improvement in his final year at Florida State, proving he could be an every down player by bettering his fitness.
If Jernigan continues to develop like he did with the Seminoles he is going to make the Ravens very happy with their first-round investment.
