Packers HC McCarthy impressed by QB Tolzien's work ethic

Some people take their work home with them. Others, like Green Bay Packers quarterback Scott Tolzien, prefer to make a home out of their workplace.

Since being named starter for Sunday's game against the New York Giants, Tolzien has been staying late after practice, attending additional meetings, and studying film on his team-issued iPad. He sleeps at home, but has spent nearly every waking moment at the Packers' facilities.

"He tells me he sleeps well. I'll take his word for that," head coach Mike McCarthy said after Wednesday's practice, via Jason Wilde of ESPNWisconsin.com. "He's getting his proper rest. He eats well because he's here all the time. So I'm not worried about him. The man loves it, and you've got to appreciate his work ethic. It's refreshing, and it's good for everybody. He's going about it the right way.”

This is the same Tolzien who, after signing with the San Francisco 49ers during the opening week of the 2011 season, slept in the players' lounge during his first two weeks with the team.

"I signed there Week 1 so I was scrapping to learn the playbook. I was working late hours there and they had a nice couch there, some nice TVs, so I figured, 'Why not?'" Tolzien said. "I wasn't getting much sleep at that point. It made it more convenient.

"I got a few looks here and there, but it wasn't too much of a big deal. The priority was just to learn the offense at the time. That was the most convenient thing for me."

Regardless of Sunday's outcome, no one can accuse Tolzien of not caring.
