Seahawks new OC Fleury: Offense will look 'very similar' to Kubiak's
New Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Fleury doesn't anticipate changing much from the offense Klint Kubiak ran last season.
"It looks very similar to the one that just won the Super Bowl," Fleury said Thursday, according to NFL Network's Nick Shook. "It's more about how you play than what you actually are doing schematically.
"We're gonna be fast and violent and aggressive in every way that we possibly can. Put pressure on defenses, both schematically and from a tempo standpoint. And just always have that type of mindset."
Fleury, 47, was hired last week after Kubiak took the Las Vegas Raiders' head coaching job. Kubiak spent one season in Seattle and helped the offense rank third in points per game after finishing 18th in 2024 under Ryan Grubb.
Kubiak's offense incorporated a ton of play-action passes for quarterback Sam Darnold. He finished the year second in passing yards and eighth in attempts among all signal-callers when running the play type, according to TruMedia. Darnold also had the third-most under-center pass attempts in the league (164) compared to 59 for 2024 Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith.
Fleury, like Kubiak, worked under Kyle Shanahan with the 49ers. Fleury has been there for the last seven years in multiple roles, most recently as tight ends coach and run-game coordinator.
"I do think one of the advantages of taking this job is there is gonna be a lot of continuity," Fleury added. "I've already started to dive into everything that Klint was doing here last year, and the goal would be to maintain as much of that as possible, but there's also areas where we can supplement that with things that we've developed and done in San Francisco. ...
"So, that's going to be the goal, is to keep as much as we can, the same. But I think there's areas where we can grow, some different ways we can challenge the players, that they should be looking forward to when they get back here."
