Bucs use 1st-round pick on Barton to bolster O-line

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Duke offensive lineman Graham Barton in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 26th overall.

The versatile Barton played mostly at left tackle in his final seasons at Duke but also had experience at center as a freshman. He's projected to be an interior lineman in the NFL, possibly at center.

Adding interior offensive linemen was a priority for the Buccaneers this offseason. Aaron Stinnie, the team's starting left guard in 2023, signed with the New York Giants in free agency.

Barton is the first offensive player the Bucs have drafted in Round 1 since offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs in 2020.

Tampa Bay entered the offseason at risk of losing key starters but managed to retain quarterback Baker Mayfield, wide receiver Mike Evans, and safety Antoine Winfield Jr., among others.

Pre-draft profile

Barton offers an intriguing blend of movement skills and play strength. His lateral quickness and ability to climb to the second level make him a particularly interesting fit in a zone-heavy system, but he has the power and tenacity to create movement as a drive blocker, too. Position fit is the main question surrounding Barton's NFL future, as a lack of length may prevent him from staying at tackle. Moving inside to center, where he saw time as a freshman, could be the best way to utilize his physical traits and processing abilities. Either way, his versatility is an asset, and Barton could be a high-level starter at multiple positions.
