New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty believes quarterback Mac Jones has what it takes to lead the offense for the foreseeable future.

"I'm excited for Mac," McCourty said in an interview on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football." "I think (the) sky is the limit. I think he is the future of New England. ... I think you're wrong if you don't think that. He's in that building right now doing different things, working with guys, talking to guys; that's what he wants. He wants to be that quarterback."

Jones led the Patriots to a 10-7 record and a playoff spot in his rookie season. He took a step back in his second campaign, throwing for 2,997 yards with 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while going 6-8 in 14 starts.

New England made a change at offensive coordinator this offseason, replacing Matt Patricia with Bill O'Brien. McCourty expects that O'Brien will help Jones flourish as a quarterback.

"I think Mac has all the intangibles and the things that you want in a quarterback. He's ... going into his third year, third offensive coordinator. Hopefully, (O'Brien) is there for a while, and I think you'll see the true growth."

McCourty has been with the Patriots organization since 2010. He's set to become a free agent March 13.
