Roethlisberger says MNF could mark Heinz Field farewell
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger acknowledged Thursday that his upcoming Monday Night Football tilt with the Cleveland Browns could be his final game at Heinz Field.
"I don't ever speak in definites or guarantees. That's just not what I've ever done or who I am," he told reporters, courtesy of ESPN's Brooke Pryor. "But looking at the bigger picture, I would say that all signs are pointing to this could be it - regular season that is.
"I know we still have a chance to potentially get a playoff game there if things fall our way and we take care of business, and things have to happen. But in the grand scheme of things, in terms of regular seasons, the signs are pointing that way that this could be it."
Roethlisberger has spent all 18 of his professional seasons with Pittsburgh but will be a free agent in 2022. A report at the beginning of December said Roethlisberger has told some within the organization that he believes he's in his final campaign with the Steelers, and that he's unlikely to play elsewhere.
The 39-year-old gunslinger sits fifth all-time in NFL passing yards and owns several Steelers franchise records, though his arm strength has visibly declined in recent years.
Pittsburgh enters the penultimate week of the regular season outside the playoff picture at 7-7-1. However, wins against the Browns and Baltimore Ravens in the final two weeks could propel the Steelers into a wild card spot - or even the AFC North title.
