Quarterback Gardner Minshew will start his first game with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday against the New York Jets in place of Jalen Hurts, who's inactive due to an ankle injury.

Hurts was limited at practice this week after sustaining the ailment in the Week 12 loss to the New York Giants. He said Wednesday he expected to play.

The 23-year-old took over the starting role in Philly this year after Carson Wentz was traded to the Indianapolis Colts. The second-year passer has completed 60.1% of his passes for 13 touchdowns to eight interceptions while posting a 5-7 record in 2021. He's also hurt opponents with his legs, rushing for 695 yards and eight scores.

Minshew will make his first start with the Eagles since joining them in an offseason trade from the Jaguars. He started 20 games over two seasons in Jacksonville, posting a 7-13 record.

Reid Sinnett, an undrafted rookie last year, will serve as Minshew's backup against the Jets.
