The Chicago Bears activated running back David Montgomery from injured reserve to play Monday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team announced.

Montgomery suffered a knee injury against the Detroit Lions in Week 4 but returned to practice Thursday.

The 24-year-old has rushed for 309 yards and three touchdowns - two against Detroit before exiting the game - on 69 carries this season.

Rookie Khalil Herbert filled in during Montgomery's absence, rushing for 351 yards and one touchdown on 81 carries.
