Lions draft weapon for Goff with St. Brown in 4th round

The Detroit Lions selected receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown out of USC in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, 112th overall.

St. Brown is the Lions' second offensive pick of the draft, following offensive tackle Penei Sewell, who the team selected with the No. 7 overall pick.

Wide receiver was among Detroit's most pressing needs after allowing Kenny Golladay, its leading pass-catcher from 2020, to sign with the New York Giants in free agency. The NFC North club also opted not to bring back Danny Amendola, who was third in team receiving yards.

The Lions did bolster new quarterback Jared Goff's receiving corps with Tyrell Williams and Breshad Perriman, but St. Brown will likely be the favorite to be the No. 3 wideout due to the poor depth behind those two veterans.

Key stats: 41 receptions, 478 yards, 7 TDs, 11.7 YPC

The definition of a reliable possession receiver, St. Brown could thrive as a short-to-intermediate target in an offense that utilizes a quick-hit passing approach. He separates with clean releases and quality vision at the top of his routes, and the ability to adjust to the ball and compete at the catch point provides upside, too. Average athleticism caps his big-play potential, as he'll likely never be a major playmaker vertically. But the consistency he'll offer as an underneath target should lead to plenty of Day 2 value.
