Cowboys OC Moore expected to stay on McCarthy's staff

Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is expected to remain with the team under new head coach Mike McCarthy, the Cowboys announced Wednesday.

Moore also had an opportunity to become Washington's offensive coordinator in the Pac-12, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday.

In his first season as Cowboys offensive coordinator, Moore led the NFC East club to a league-high 431.5 yards per game and 27.1 points per contest (sixth in the NFL).

It remains to be seen who will be the Cowboys' offensive play-caller. McCarthy called plays for the vast majority for his time with the Green Bay Packers. He gave up that responsibility for most of the 2015 season, only to retake it with the offense struggling late in the campaign.

"I'll never do that again," McCarthy said in August 2016 regarding his decision to surrender play-calling duties.

After a six-year NFL career that ended with a three-year stint in Dallas, the 31-year-old Moore acted as the Cowboys' quarterbacks coach in 2018 before his promotion to offensive coordinator.

Additionally, Los Angeles Rams special teams coordinator John Fassel has joined McCarthy's staff in the same role following the expiration of his contract with L.A., while former San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula has been hired as McCarthy's defensive line coach in Dallas.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones publically lamented the performance of his club's special teams after several costly errors during a Week 12 loss to the New England Patriots. Dallas' special teams unit ranked 30th in Football Outsiders' DVOA metric in 2019.
