Sean McVay flattered teams want to find next version of him
The NFL is a copycat league, and this year's big trend appears to be finding a coach connected to Los Angeles Rams boss Sean McVay.
The reigning NFL Coach of the Year's offensive coordinator from 2017 - Matt LaFleur - landed with the Green Bay Packers, the Arizona Cardinals hired McVay's friend Kliff Kingsbury - using McVay's endorsement to hype the hiring - while Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor is reportedly the Cincinnati Bengals' top target.
McVay said Thursday he was flattered by teams' interest in finding the next version of him, but attributed the hype to the overall success of Los Angeles rather than his own talents.
"I think, really, what it is more than anything else is, it's a reflection of our organizational success over the last couple years," McVay said Thursday, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. "I think it's certainly flattering. It's extremely humbling to even be mentioned in that.
"But I know this: The reason that people are saying those types of things is because the Rams have had success. I know the Rams are having success because we've got great players. We’ve got a great coaching staff, and we've got a lot of people that are working in the same direction. I think that's key for continuity in anything that you do. But it certainly is very flattering, and it's a reflection of the Rams' success."
McVay is looking for his first playoff win Saturday against the Dallas Cowboys after being bounced in the wild-card round last year.
