Dolphins' Tannehill to miss 2nd straight game with ailing shoulder

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill will miss his second consecutive game Sunday due to a shoulder injury, leaving backup Brock Osweiler to steer the offense again versus the Detroit Lions.

Dolphins head coach Adam Gase delivered the news to reporters Wednesday, two days after he deemed Tannehill day to day.

"He just can't throw," Gase said, according to ESPN's Cameron Wolfe.

Tannehill was a surprise inactive in Week 6, as he never popped up on the injury report in the days leading up to the game. The NFL is reportedly investigating the Dolphins' non-reporting of his injury.

Tannehill, who was sidelined last season with a torn ACL, threw for 972 yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions through five outings this year before sitting out last week.

Osweiler, meanwhile, will get his second straight start after leading the Dolphins to an overtime victory over the Chicago Bears a week ago. He'll likely draw his third consecutive start if Tannehill can't suit up in Week 8 when Miami faces Osweiler's former team, the Houston Texans, on Thursday Night Football.
