Goodell to be joined by Cowboys legends Staubach, Aikman for start of draft

The Dallas Cowboys are taking some preventative measures to limit the amount of boos directed at NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for the start of the draft at AT&T Stadium on Thursday night.

Goodell has been ferociously booed by fans while taking the stage at recent drafts, but he is expected to be joined by Hall of Fame quarterbacks Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman, and likely future Hall of Fame tight end Jason Witten at this year's event.

"I'm sure he's going to get a good response with us being out there," Staubach said, according to Todd Archer of ESPN. "If they boo, all of us are in trouble."

Cowboys fans and owner/general manager Jerry Jones have been butting heads with Goodell for most of the past year over running back Ezekiel Elliott's six-game suspension in the 2017 season.

Jones seems ready to move on.

"I don't know of anybody, maybe other than me, that's had more boos than Roger has," Jones said at the pre-draft press conference. "I know about how that works. I do hope we can be positive in our reception. We are going to do something pretty special, and he did have a final say in that."
