Report: Jets-Lions to open season on Monday Night Football

Robert Deutsch / USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions and New York Jets will apparently open the 2018 season under the Monday night lights.

The Lions and Jets will face off on Monday Night Football in Week 1, reports Brian Costello of the New York Post.

At first glance, these clubs would seem to be odd choices for the primetime spotlight. The Jets finished last in the AFC East with a 5-11 record last year, the Lions also missed the playoffs despite going 9-7, and neither club is being talked up as a playoff contender.

However, since the Jets hold the No. 3 overall draft pick, they should enter the year with a shiny new addition - one very well could be a high-profile quarterback.

For the Lions, meanwhile, Matt Patricia will make his head coaching debut after spending the past 13 years as an assistant with the New England Patriots.
