Before the Seahawks agreed to send Michael Bennett to the Philadelphia Eagles for a fifth-round pick and receiver Marcus Johnson, Seattle received a better offer from the New England Patriots, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Rapoport only told "NFL Total Access" that New England came in with a "big offer" for Bennett, but explained to a Seattle radio station earlier Wednesday that the Patriots offered a third-rounder and a fifth-rounder for Bennett.

Ultimately, Seattle chose the Eagles' offer because the two clubs had already verbally agreed on their deal, and the Seahawks were reluctant to go back on their word, according to Rapoport.

The Atlanta Falcons also reportedly submitted a trade offer for Bennett, but were only prepared to part with a late-round pick.

The 32-year-old Bennett posted 8.5 sacks this past season, and was named to three Pro Bowls in five years with the Seahawks.
