Minnesota Vikings cornerback Terence Newman, 39, isn't ruling out playing in his 16th season, even if he fulfills his goal of becoming a Super Bowl champion.

"Let's just say, hypothetically speaking, that I was able to (win a Super Bowl), then why not try to get two?" he said Thursday, according to Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. "You can look at it at both sides."

Newman will play in his first-ever conference championship game Sunday when the Vikings visit the Philadelphia Eagles, with a trip to his first Super Bowl on the line.

Set to turn 40 in early September, he played all 16 regular season games, making 35 combined tackles with one interception. It was his 15th straight season with at least one pick.

He played 28 of 68 snaps in the divisional round against the New Orleans Saints.

Despite taking on a diminished workload, he's embracing his role as the team's elder statesman, warning his younger teammates not to take playoff success for granted.

"It's one of those things where it could give you a false sense of hope as a young player if this is what you're in your very first year," Newman said. "But the reality of it is it's hard to continue to do that. The New Englands of the world, they've been in that position quite a bit, but it's not something that happens often."
