Report: Gronkowski in concussion protocol, Patriots optimistic for SB LII

Robert Deutsch / USA TODAY Sports

New England Patriots star tight end Rob Gronkowski is in the NFL's concussion protocol after taking a vicious hit to the head just before halftime of Sunday's victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, a source told Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald.

Gronkowski missed the rest of the AFC title game win, but there is optimism he'll be ready for Super Bowl LII on Feb. 4, added Guregian.

The future Hall of Famer will have two weeks to pass through the stages of the protocol.

Gronkowski caught just one pass before exiting versus Jacksonville. He caught six passes for 81 yards and a touchdown in the divisional round.
