New York Giants ownership wants the Eli Manning era to extend into at least 2018, and the veteran quarterback said Tuesday he shares the desire.

"This is what I love to do," Manning said on WFAN, according to Tom Rock of Newsday. "I love playing football, I love playing quarterback, and I want to continue to do it for the Giants. This is the only team I ever wanted to play for and I don't want to change. I do understand how this season has gone and new people (are) coming in. If they want to make a change, then we'll go down that road."

Giants co-owner John Mara confirmed on Dec. 13 that he hopes Manning will return next season. Still, he conceded the team's new general manager and head coach will be involved in the decisions under center, and admitted another quarterback could be drafted.

New York fell far short of expectations in 2017 after an 11-5 campaign last year. However, if Manning is still the starter for next season, he expects the Giants to bounce back.

"It may be hard to realize or say it but I don't think the Giants are far off," Manning said.
