The Jacksonville Jaguars released a statement Monday after a faction of their fan base tried to attack members of the Seattle Seahawks at the conclusion of Sunday's 30-24 win.

Seahawks defensive end Quinton Jefferson was ejected late in the fourth quarter and Jaguars fans threw debris at him, prompting him to engage in a verbal spat with the aggressors. Jefferson was struck again and then tried to climb the railing to confront his assailants but was restrained by security.

Seahawks defensive tackle Jarran Reed said Jefferson was called a racial epithet during the incident.

The Jaguars released the following statement:

The Jacksonville Jaguars in no way condone the behavior of a small group of fans that occurred at the conclusion of Sunday's Jaguars vs. Seahawks game, which involved the throwing of several items on to the field in the direction of a visiting player.

Immediately following the conclusion of the game, a thorough examination of the incident was initiated involving the Jaguars, NFL Security, the stadium management company (SMG), the Jacksonville's Sherriff's Office and the stadium security company (SAFE Management). While the investigation continues, the group has reviewed video footage and interviewed fans and staff who were in the vicinity. During the incident, four individuals threw five objects from the stands. Those objects included plastic cups with ice and liquid, a bag of popcorn and a plastic bottle.

The Jaguars stated they will identify and find the four fans in question and will ban them indefinitely from purchasing tickets.
